week fourteen 4/17/2025 we are proud to present the very talented Gary Reed.

Audiences, both large and small, are given a truly wonderful experience with Gary Reed’s fascinating right- and left-hand fingering of the guitar strings blending musical elements with this one instrument. With his fingerstyle technique, Reed’s guitar base notes are used to glue together the component sounds as they support the melody and harmony while also providing a rhythmic element to the music. The addition of Gary Reed’s vocals and intuitive sense for groove and composition add to the artistry, the performance genius.

Reed’s musical career began when he was a young child  sitting quietly under his musical family’s baby grand piano in Buffalo NY listening intently to the harmonizing voices of his father’s internationally acclaimed vocal quartet. At an early age, Gary was intimately influenced by his father’s Broadway stage, Hollywood movie, and television vocal performance.

Gary Reed’s early-career musical growth performing in venues in  San Francisco and in the mid-west, later brought him to many audiences in NY, NJ, and PA.

His style is influenced by Doc Watson, Merl Travis, Mark Knopfler, Blind Blake, Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt and so many amazing fingerstyle players. Reed was honored to be a featured main-stage performer at the 2001 Chet Atkins Society in Nashville.  As a guest performer at the New Jersey Guitar Show, Reed has played alongside Les Paul, George Benson, and other premier NJ guitarists.

Currently, Gary Reed performs as both a solo guitarist/vocalist and along with upright bass and fiddle. Reed’s performances include music from the singer songwriters of the 60’s, 70’s and those up to the present combining his unique guitar style to popular music.

Gary Reed is truly in his element during each gig. With versatility of performance style and stage presence, Reed shares his love for music with audiences ranging from intimate settings to large-scale concerts of hundreds or more.

Audiences enjoy the passion of musical expression and creativity of fingerstyle guitar.
